Understanding

MIRA's purpose is to find cures for mental illnesses and other brain disorders through funding brain research. MIRA also works to educate and to erase the destructive myths surrounding the stigma of mental illness that block proper diagnosis and treatment for millions of Americans each year.

Through our efforts, we strive to deepen the level of understanding of these diseases and to positively impact the lives of those afflicted. In this section, we will review mental disorders and provide links to other sites with in-depth information on the disorder. We look at the staggering impact of stigma and hear views of it destructive effects from mental illness sufferers. To offer further sources of information, we have included a statistics page and informative mental health web links.

In our Hot Topics section, we examine three subjects of great interest in the area of mental health and brain disorders. These topics will be changed regularly to reflect current happenings and invoke discussion. We welcome your comments and feedback.

We have also included an assistance page for those in need of more information regarding mental health treatment.
