Q.

Why is stem cell research so important?

A.

Stem cells have the unique ability to divide for indefinite periods in researcher's laboratories and to give rise to specialized cells. The pluripotent stem cell - meaning they can develop into many types of cells - shows the most promise in medical research. Human stem cell research can dramatically change the way we develop drugs and test them for safety.  They also offer the possibility of a renewable source of replacement cells and tissue to treat a myriad of diseases, conditions, and disabilities including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.
